Municipality of Cortina d’Ampezzo: Multi-purpose Center

DESCRIPTION

The project regards the transformation of the warehouse of the former sawmill in Pontechiesa, owned by the Regole Foundation, in a Multipurpose Center, as the result of an agreement between the Foundation and the Municipal Administration, within the broader framework of the project “Cortina without borders”, co-financed under the Interreg III Italy-Austria 2000-2006 – Axis 1: Protection and sustainable development of crossborder territories, networks, facilities and infrastructures – Measure 2: Organizations Development and Strengthening, crossborder structures and infrastructures.

The recovery of the warehouse of the former sawmill others the opportunity to benefit of a structure that can host events of national and international importance, as well as creating a regional point of information regarding the First World War, local fauna, flora and alpine forestation. The building lies in the urban area, close to the Boite stream and adjacent to the former sawmill building, under renovation.

The first settlement dates back to the ‘800 and the current configuration of the volumes has undergone several layers. The present architectural aspect complies with construction methods available in the first decades of the ‘900 for non-residential buildings (organization of the walls, wooden wall plugs, roof structure).

The total volume of the building reaches 23.800 cubic meters and includes 650 seats hall, convertible into three smaller rooms, the stage space for actors and practices, a large foyer and a museum space.
